DescriptionMedium Density Fiberboard (MDF) toegepast als plaatmateriaal voor een niet dragende elementwand. MDF bestaat uit houtspanen (uit duurzame bosbouw (met keurmerk)), van zowel naald- als loofhout, verlijmd met ureumformaldehydelijm (UF-lijm). De belangrijkste grondstof voor UF is aardgas. Het hout wordt achtereenvolgens verspaand, gezeefd, gewassen, gestoomd, vervezeld, gelijmd, gedroogd en opgeslagen, waarna het wordt geperst (verviltingsproces).
Het soortelijk gewicht van de plaat is ca. 750 kg/m³. Voor een plaat van 1 m² met een dikte van 9 mm is 6,8 kg materiaal nodig.
